Community Chat [BETA]
The brand new Community Chat feature allows all registered users to join
a real-time chat on any community with it enabled. Now you can chat live with
your ezboard friends. We’ve added a bunch of cool, unique features to
this BETA version of Community Chat that set us apart from
the other available chat programs. Please keep in mind that Chat is still
in development and is not yet finished. We will continue to develop following
your comments and suggestions.
Key Information
- This is a Gold Community feature. All registered
users can chat.
- Community Chat is currently a BETA release and the fully featured version
will be released later. As with any BETA software, bugs and inconsistencies
may show up.
- Up to 25 users are allowed in a chat room at any given time.
How to use Community Chat
Admin: How to turn on Community Chat on my community
- Go to the My Community tab in your Control Center
- Click on the Feature Options button
- Check the box next to Enable Community Chat
- Click Save Changes

Admin: How to hide Community Chat from Chatfinder
Chatfinder is ezboard's
chat room search engine. All chat rooms are listed by default in Chatfinder.
If you would like to make your chat room private, just follow these easy steps.
- To hide: Type '/hideroom' in the chat screen text window
and press enter
- To be listed: Type '/showroom' in the chat screen text
window and press enter

Admin: How to edit the colors for Community Chat
- Go to the My Community tab in your Control Center
- Click on Custom Colors
- You can currently edit two colors for chat: Chat Box and Chat
Highlight. All other colors are inherited from your board for this
beta release.
- When you are finished making changes, click Save Changes

Admin: How to boot (ban) a user from a chatroom
To boot a user from chat (only admins and board mods can do this) is like
banning a user from your ezboard: They can’t come back in until you
unboot them.
- To boot: Type '/boot' in the private chat screen of
the user you want to boot
- To unboot: Type '/showbooted' in the active chat screen
– then type /unboot *number* - replace *number* with the number that
showed up next to the booted user you want to

Admin: How to grant single session Mod powers in
Community Chat
Admins have the ability to grant any user mod powers for the life of a chat
session. This allows you to give trusted users the power to boot (ban) users
from chat if you are not going to be actively involved in the chat session.
- To grant: Type '/grant' in the private chat screen of
the user you want to grant mod powers to
- To ungrant: Type '/ungrant' in the private chat screen
of the user you want to grant mod powers to

How to use Community Chat
- To be able to load Chat on your system you must first have Java installed.
To learn how to enable Java, click

- You must be logged into your ezboard account to participate in Chat.
- In the upper right hand corner of every board with Chat enabled you will
see a link: Join Live Chat– click that link to launch the
chat room.
- Once the chat applet has loaded, simply type your desired content and
press enter for others to see.

User: Available Community Chat Features...
- Unified Login - No need to
create a new account, your ezboard account will be logged in automatically.
Note: You must be logged into your ezboard account for Chat to be accessible.
Local users can participate in Chat only at the community where they are
registered.
- Color/Font Chooser - You can
choose your own text color with true-color control. You can also choose
from 3 font options. The change will be reflected in all of your comments
in the window.
- Edit your Comments - If you
make a typo, you can correct it by pressing F5 and your last comment will
come up for you to fix.
- Private Chat - Double click
on someone's name in the user list on the right (or click on their name
in the active chat window) to chat with them privately.
- Emoticons – These are
only shown at ends of lines:

- Ignore User - There are 3 ways
to ignore someone in the chat.
1 . Right-click their name in the active chat window and choose 'ignore
'
2. Single left-click their name in the active chat window to bring up a
private chat, and you can use the ignore button located there.
3. Double left-click their name in the user list on the right to bring up
a private chat window, and you can use the ignore button located there.
- Continued Post - Type one line
and end it with 3 dots like this...
...start your next line with 3 dots, and the 2 will merge together into
one line, and move to the bottom of the chat window as one message.
- URL Linking - You may post
URLs that will automatically be turned into links
e.g.,
http://www.ezboard.com
- Text Mode – This lets
you copy and paste text so you can post a chat transcript on your board.
Switch back to graphic mode to use colored fonts, emoticons, and
have clickable links.
- Font Size Adjustment–
Press 'CTRL' + the up arrow to increase font size. Press 'CTRL' + the down
arrow to decrease font size. Single session only.
